NASA’s UNEXPLAINED FILES
NASA’s Unexplained Files is a show that aims to uncover some of the biggest mysteries since man first ventures into space in 1961. After almost 60 years of space travel we have gathered a plethora of images, data and eye witness accounts from astronauts about what lies beyond the confines of our atmosphere. This 10 part series unveils some of the most bizarre discoveries & occurrences and attempts to analyse them with the help of scientific experts from around the world.
9 Limits worked with WAG Entertainment toward the graphics package for the show creating series titles, stings and straps and a set of supporting graphics for the various stories in the show. The briefs for the show were varied, from photo real 3D visualisations of planets and asteroids to stylised 2.5D reconstructions.
One of the most ambitious tasks undertaken during the project was a 3D animated title sequence that features an astronaut on a solo mission who has found himself in a strange alien world somewhere near Saturn where he encounters a monolithic supernatural structure on the surface of a small moon. A combination of planetary textures, bespoke 4K footage of ink in water and a rigged CG model of an astronaut was a great recipe and the results are a great balance of mystery and magic.
