The Activesphere is one of four new concept car designs by Audi, part of their vision for the future of automobiles and their approach to domestic autonomous travel. This vision features cars that are aided by artificial intelligence that can adapt to our behaviours and routines, making ownership an experience that is harmonious with our lifestyles. These cars are equipped with functions that assist us with everyday activities, whether providing a comfortable environment to conduct meetings, or helping you plot drop-off & pick-up points for a mountain biking route.
We were invited by Territory Studio to assist with a promotional launch film for the Activesphere, the perfect four wheeled companion for any modern day adventurer. We worked with the team to visualise interactions with some of the car's UI functions, such as use of built in map systems, car performance analytics and autonomous driving behaviours. Part of this entailed developing a visual language for the Activesphere glasses that essentially serve as an adventuring companion by providing AR assistance during various outdoor activities.
The launch film depicts two couples enjoying a sporty day out, traveling between each location in their Activespheres making full use of their cars' autonomous abilities. The freedom whilst traveling allows them to make use of the cars OS system on the move and we created a library of 2D and 3D UI assets to populate the car's interior with holographic interfaces and interactive widgets. The live action plates for the car interior were shot in a hyperbowl studio with a 1:1 scale replica of the car. These plates were then motion tracked before placement of the UI designs. This process allowed us to retain a filmic look that is consistent with footage from the location shoots.
